NPC’s analysis of beat.
beat is the leading national charity for people affected by eating disorders. It provides information and direct support to individuals and families via a helpline and self-help groups; campaigns and provides training to improve services; and challenges the stereotypes and stigma that people with eating disorders face. Beat has direct contact with 70,000 people through its helplines, self-help network and training. It also has indirect contact with a further 500,000 with information requests, publications and unique visitors to its website. Although it directly supports only a fraction of the total number of people affected by eating disorders (over a million), Beat’s campaigning and training work has a much wider impact beyond individual contacts.
