The Government’s digital strategy

In December 2015, Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey requested input on how the UK Government’s digital strategy could be taken to the next stage.

NPC shares the Government’s mission to embrace digital technology in British society. Through our Digital Transformation programme, we are supporting the adoption of digital technologies in the charity sector with the aim of transforming the way we tackle complex social problems.

In our response, we advise that any Government policy on digital transformation must include the voluntary and community sector, for the following reasons:

  • Many charities work with people who are most digitally excluded, making charities well placed to help close the digital divide.
  • The gap in digital literacy within charities themselves is holding the sector back from delivering maximum social impact.

We also make several more specific recommendations, which we hope the Government will consider and incorporate into its future strategy.
