Looking ahead: NPC’s autumn events

By Rebecca Goodbourn 3 September 2012

With August at an end and the start of the school year around the corner thoughts turn to the autumn (and not just to pray for an Indian summer). Over the summer at NPC, in between attending Olympic events and eating chocolates from colleagues’ holidays around the world, we have been working hard to develop an exciting programme of events—from free topical seminars to our annual impact conference.

September kicks off with 3 training workshops: selecting great charities, measuring your impact, and an introduction to social investment, where NPC’s research and consulting team will be sharing their specialist knowledge with groups of no more than 15 people at a time.

There will also be an opportunity to met the Inspiring Impact team and find out about this ambitious ten-year project which NPC is leading. Inspiring Impact aims to make high quality impact measurement the norm for charities and social enterprises by 2022. If you want to know more about how they plan to do it, and how you can get involved, join them for a free drinks event on September 25th – you can sign up to the event here.

We have a jam-packed month in October. Our second annual impact measurement conference in partnership with Third Sector takes place on October 16th, and will feature the launch of the UK’s largest ever survey on impact measurement practices amongst charities, which we’re producing in collaboration with TSRC, CES, ACEVO and NCVO. It promises to be a stimulating day, with participants from across the sector. October will also see some exciting developments for NPC’s website too, so watch this space!

In November we’ll be getting topical when we explore how reforms to the National Health Service are likely to affect charities. We will be addressing several important questions: what are the opportunities and risks for the voluntary sector in the new world of locally-driven, GP-led healthcare? What can be done by both commissioners and charities to ensure the sector thrives in this new system? How will the regulator, Monitor, ensure fair play? What role will the new Health and Wellbeing boards play? And what can we learn from the experiences of local health charities to inform best practice in the future? We hope to get charities, commissioners and funders talking about these issues and thinking about how to address them.

Finally, in December we will be talking trusteeship with the last in a series of seminars on the new commissioning landscape addressing key areas such as risk and collaboration. Details are still being confirmed so keep an eye on NPC’s website, or look out for our emails, for more information.

We hope you will find something that interests you, but we are always on the lookout for new topics to discuss, so do get in touch if you have any suggestions for events we could develop for next year. And don’t forget, if you can’t make any of our events, you can keep up with everything that happens at them via our blog and twitter.
