About NPC

A think tank and consultancy for the impact economy

New Philanthropy Capital is a think tank and consultancy working with individuals and organisations to maximise their impact.

Established in 2003 by far-sighted philanthropists, we have spent over 20 years at the heart of the impact economy, helping funders, practitioners and policymakers identify promising initiatives, measure and evaluate impact, design effective philanthropic structures, and direct hundreds of millions of pounds towards lasting social and environmental outcomes.

What is the impact economy?

15% of GDP representing the collective effort to do good with our money, time and talent. An inclusive, purpose led space that brings together charity, philanthropy, social enterprise, social investment and purpose led business as part of the same story.

As an independent charity, we work with the whole community across the impact economy. Our ten-step Theory of Change has been used more than 150,000 times, our two annual flagship conferences bring together over 750 attendees each year, and over the past 25 years we have supported the distribution of hundreds of millions of pounds towards social and environmental impact.

Telling the story of impact

We believe stories are how change spreads. Through research, case studies, publications, and events, we bring to life the work of organisations, funders and communities in the impact economy. From enabling innovative programmes like Everyone’s Environment to mapping gaps in children and young people’s mental health services, our storytelling helps people understand what works, why it matters, and how they can contribute. Stories make evidence real, create clear entry points, and strengthen the collective effort needed to achieve lasting change.

Our Services

Through our consultancy, collaborative projects and sharing of resources, we support organisations to be as impactful as possible.

Convening and influencing

We bring people and ideas together to move the impact conversation forward. Through our research and publications, we help shape what comes next and amplify voices too often unheard. Each year, we gather the impact economy through NPC Ignites and The Beacon Philanthropy and Impact Forum, alongside open training workshops that connect cutting-edge thinking with frontline practice

Our Theory of Change

Our new strategy recognises that achieving lasting change requires strengthening the wider system in which charities, funders, communities, and policymakers operate. This means building a more connected, better resourced, and more impactful impact economy.

Through our strategy development process, we have developed a work-in-progress theory of change that we will continue to test and refine. As part of our commitment to openness, we invite you to review, critique and share your thoughts with us by email as our theory of change evolves.

Our theory of change maps how we turn ideas into impact, showing the steps, connections and learning that make lasting change possible. Central to our theory of change is the assumption that strengthening the impact economy, allows us to grow the impactful work within it. By building and demonstrating best practice in delivering impact, we increase the trust and value placed in the impact economy and attract more interest and investment into what we collectively do.
