Versus Arthritis

The challenge

In 2018 NPC worked with Arthritis Research UK—now Versus Arthritis—to develop an impact framework for its information services: a helpline, online and printed information, and a new online virtual assistant.

 The approach

NPC worked with Arthritis Research UK during its merger with Arthritis Care in 2017. We worked flexibly to adapt the scope of the project and involve staff from both organisations once the merger was announced. A workshop on the first day of the new, merged organisation brought perspectives from staff of both organisations to build a shared theory of change. We built on this, and drew on interviews with staff across the organisation to develop an impact framework that can adapt to services at different stages of development.

The result

Versus Arthritis is using its information services as a pioneer for the impact management approach it plans to develop across the whole organisation.

NPC opened eyes in the organisation to the value of impact management in improving organisational effectiveness. The findings from the services pilot provide a grounding for how we can adapt our organisational impact management as we go through our merger and transformation programme.
