Environmental philanthropy
Why social issue funders need to get involved – and where to begin
Home » Resource hub »
At NPC, we’re helping charities and funders step up their role in the transition to a post-carbon economy, working together across social and environmental areas. This guide is for anyone new to environmental philanthropy, and especially if you already fund social issues.
Environmental philanthropy is as much about people as it is about the planet. The environmental crises and the actions we take to confront it affect us all but also exacerbate existing inequalities and affect people differently. People who are poor or marginalised are often hit hardest. Social and environmental charities, philanthropists, and campaigners must therefore work together with communities if our response to the environmental crises is to benefit everyone.
This briefing introduces the cause areas you can consider supporting. NPC can provide support to help you to understand what areas to support so you can make a difference. Please get in touch if you would like to speak further.
Our advice for funders is in addition to our Everyone’s Environment initiative, an ambitious new programme working with over 30 social and environmental charities to empower people from the UK’s diverse social groups to be part of decisions on how we confront the climate and nature crises.
