Telling the story of the impact economy
14 August 2025
At our 2025 Summer Reception, hosted by Rennie Hoare, Partner & Head of Philanthropy at C. Hoare & Co, Jonathan took the opportunity to launch our mapping the impact economy project. Through this project, we aim to:
- Define and quantify the overall size and reach of the impact economy
- Collate the best available data and tell a clear, compelling story
- Communicate why it matters to society and the economy
- Spotlight the key players and points of entry
- Spark a broader, louder conversation about how to grow the impact economy.
We strongly believe that the way to define the story of the impact economy is to start telling the story of it. That is why we brought together a panel of speakers, each with their own experience within the impact economy; chaired by Cath Dovey, and included Jason Arthur, CEO at Mission 44, Erica Wax, Co-founder, Impact London Collective, and Gary Lubner, Founder, This Day Foundation.
Key takeaways:
- The importance of investing in the leadership of the organisations you support
- When coming up against barriers – trying to fall in love with a problem rather than fall in love with a solution
- Don’t underestimate the time it takes to collaborate, and how much the power dynamic that comes from funding can distort relationships
- Not all philanthropists look the same.

Recognising that there’s a huge amount of power that comes with having capital is critical and we need to be even more disruptive about how we share that power.
