Investing for UK Climate Justice

NPC, commissioned by Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), the Church of England Social Impact Investment Programme (SIIP), and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, explored how UK climate investments can also advance social justice—what we call the climate justice field.
With the support of Better Society Capital, we convened key policy makers, investors, and sector bodies to explore how investment can drive both climate and social impact. The discussion focused on four core questions:
- Which solutions or sectors deliver clear social benefits alongside climate outcomes?
- How are these solutions currently financed, and where are the gaps?
- Where could catalytic capital play the greatest role in addressing those gaps?
- What investment barriers might require concessional or blended finance to overcome?
Our research identified a number of key intersectional areas where impact first investors have the potential to offer additive and catalytic investment to seed and scale new funds and business models.
