Responding to the SORP Exposure Draft, NPC Chief Operating Officer Sarah Broad said:
We welcome the additional impact reporting requirements. Our experience tells us that many charities support the principle of impact reporting, but struggle with how to translate into practice.
To help them, we recommend that the final version of the SORP:
- Highlights the six principles of good impact reporting (clarity, accessibility, transparency, accountability, verifiability, and proportionality) and the five different types of data (user, engagement, feedback, outcomes, and impact).
- Gives equal weight to both qualitative and quantitative or numeric data. Examples of qualitative data include interviews, observations or ethnography, focus groups, informal data, and feedback.
- Signposts freely available, practical resources. There are many good resources available, including NPC’s own guide on understanding impact.
